Alongside the single "Sweet Lorraine", one of the band's best-known songs, the ten-minute title track stands out, with Mick Box performing a lengthy guitar solo. "The Magician's Birthday" was the second album by the Byron/Box/Hensley/Thain/Kerslake lineup and shows the band to be more skilled and playful than ever before.
